“13”, a short film by Martian's Christina Hurtado-Pierson and frequent Martian collaborators Emma Canalese and Kevin Rogers, recently won Best Writing and Best Supporting Actor for Dan Clarkson at the Sparrow Film Festival. The short was also nominated for Best Director, Best Actress, Best Sound, and was a top 3 finalist for Audience Choice.
“13” follows the exploits of young Emily, who in a fit of teenage angst, decides to kill her mother. The film stars Sierra Rogers, with Emma Canalese as the Mom, and Dan Clarkson as the Narrator, and original music by Andrew David Sotomayor. Dan Clarkson also created and stars in “Potted Potter”, whose New York performances were company managed by Martian Entertainment.
The Sparrow Film Project holds an annual competition where teams are given a several creative elements to incorporate into an original three minute film, which must be completed within a three week timeframe. All completed entries are screened at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens, with nominees receiving a second screening.
